Plot Summary: Centers on an inter-tribal war and the threat of extinction hanging over the Buhi tribe. Its over-protective Balyan (tribal shaman/village healer) provides the backdrop for parallel tales about the changing landscape of southern Philippines. (from yahoo movies)

Various stories are superimposed in the unique setting of an island in the Philippines: communist rebels follow a faint trail in the mountains, government soldiers bivouac in a village and participate in a karaoke session, a brother and sister wander about in the forest, and the last living priestess is struck by Christ-like stigmata.

Multiplying the narratives, The Woven Stories of the Other resembles experimental fiction and swings between genres. Poetic, surrealist, the film becomes coherent at the end, after showing all the facets of a country in transition.
In his first film, the director demonstrates remarkable control. By favouring a contemplative image, by confirming its origin in dreams, he offers a very personal vision of a heterogeneous culture. Based on myth and legend, the film evokes a social and political situation on the verge of crisis. By refusing to lecture us, the director gives us an impartial work, full of splendid images.
